Making ancient wisdom a living experience

Knowledge should not stay inside books, classrooms and research papers. Its purpose is fulfilled when a person can understand it, feel its meaning and carry it into everyday life.

Move or tap across the field. In Sāṅkhya, the world of experience unfolds when the balance of the three guṇas is stirred. This animation is a visual metaphor, made for this page.

Three strands of nature, always together. Choose one to see how the classical text describes it.

Four pathways of inquiry · anveṣaṇa

One search, four circles

The work moves through four pathways. Each has its own purpose and its own circle of people. The innermost is kept private. The outermost belongs to everyone.

१Knowledge

An inheritance waiting to be met

India has preserved an extraordinary body of knowledge through the Vedas, the Upaniṣads, the Darśanas, Yoga and the experience of many thinkers. Today most of it reaches people through academic formats. Those formats protect authenticity and they matter. They are also not always easy to enter, especially for learners more at home in visual, interactive and digital spaces.

A bridge, built alongside the texts

I want to build a bridge between this knowledge and the way people learn now. The aim is not to replace Sanskrit texts, original commentaries, books or academic research. It is to open more doors into them, so that people understand what ancient thinkers said and why it still matters for how we see ourselves, each other and the world.

The six classical Darśanas

Darśana means "a way of seeing". These six schools are a starting point. Other traditions will follow, always with careful attention to the texts and with scholars alongside.

Nyāya

न्याय

Logic, debate and the valid means of knowing (pramāṇa).

Root text: Nyāya Sūtra, attributed to Gautama

Vaiśeṣika

वैशेषिक

The categories of what exists, including an account of atoms.

Root text: Vaiśeṣika Sūtra, attributed to Kaṇāda

Sāṅkhya

साङ्ख्य

Puruṣa (consciousness) and Prakṛti (nature), and the principles through which experience unfolds.

Earliest surviving text: Sāṅkhyakārikā of Īśvarakṛṣṇa

Yoga

योग

A discipline of attention and conduct, aimed at stillness of mind and freedom.

Root text: Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali

Mīmāṃsā

Careful interpretation of Vedic language, action and duty.

Root text: Mīmāṃsā Sūtra, attributed to Jaimini

Inquiry into Brahman and the self, grounded in the Upaniṣads.

Five layers, always labelled

Every piece of this work will say which kind of claim it is making. On this page you will see these marks wherever they apply.

  1. १Original textWhat the sūtra, kārikā or scripture itself says.
  2. २Classical commentaryHow the traditional commentators (bhāṣya, ṭīkā) read it.
  3. ३Contemporary scholarshipHow modern academic research interprets it.
  4. ४My educational applicationHow I propose to teach it or relate it to daily life.
  5. ५Future creative possibilityImaginative work that is clearly art, not doctrine.
२Experience

Philosophy you can walk into

My central question is how philosophy can become an experience as well as a subject of study. Imagine meeting Puruṣa and Prakṛti through visual storytelling, or meeting Patañjali's teaching inside real situations and small daily practices.

How experience unfolds, in Sāṅkhya

Sāṅkhya counts twenty-five principles (tattvas). Puruṣa, pure consciousness, stands apart as the witness. From Prakṛti, nature, the rest emerge in sequence. Press play to watch the sequence unfold.

Puruṣa

Consciousness, the witness. It does not evolve and is not produced.

  1. Prakṛti

Unmanifest nature: the three guṇas held in balance.

  2. Mahat · Buddhi

The "great" principle: intellect, the capacity to decide.

  3. Ahaṅkāra

The sense of "I", the maker of ownership.

  4. Manas

    Mind, which coordinates the senses.

Immersive, cinematic, visual

I want to explore many forms so that a learner can move through an idea instead of only reading its description.

One long-term hope is a cinematic, experiential portrait of the Indian Darśanas, built on careful research. The specific designs are being developed privately.

Divyanveshan

Living Patañjali

A multimedia project on understanding the Yoga Sūtras and living with them day to day. Each sūtra is approached in layers, kept clearly apart.

Original text
योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिरोधः
yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ
Yoga Sūtra 1.2 · a common rendering: "Yoga is the stilling of the movements of the mind."
Classical commentary

The Yoga-bhāṣya attributed to Vyāsa is the oldest surviving commentary on the Sūtras. Each episode reads the sūtra alongside it before offering anything modern.

Contemporary scholarship

Modern scholars, and readers in psychology, translate terms like citta and vṛtti in different ways. Those differences are shown openly instead of being smoothed over.

My educational application

Notice the moment your attention is pulled away by a notification, a remark or a memory. An episode might begin there, then return to what the text and commentary actually say.

३Understanding

Care comes before ambition

This principle runs through all four pathways, and most of all through Manoanveshan.

Psychological and physical well-being must never be compromised in the name of spiritual progress.

Original textMy application
स्थिरसुखमासनम्
sthira-sukham āsanam

Yoga Sūtra 2.46 describes posture as steady and at ease. I take that pairing of steadiness and ease as the measure for how all learning and practice here should feel.

  • Every practice is voluntary, comfortable and suited to the person doing it.
  • If a practice brings significant distress, discomfort or harm, it stops and is reviewed.
  • Professional guidance is encouraged whenever it is needed.
  • No practice is promised to bring enlightenment, healing or any particular psychological result.
  • Nothing is forced. The purpose is healthy self-understanding, awareness and ethical living.

Technology that knows when to let go

Algorithms already shape what people watch, read, buy and explore. The same possibilities can guide people toward philosophy, creativity, scientific thinking, self-reflection, nature and real learning. Technology should help people discover knowledge without making them dependent on it.
